In the words of my friend Pauline - The Poppies have arrived!!!
For anyone not familiar with the delights of Pentire in June - the fields are a mass of wild flowers - predominantly poppies and corn marigolds. The Crantock Facebook pages are teeming with pictures of stunning red fields against a back drop of azure seas and sunsets! I went to see them last week. After visiting Cornwall for over 40 years this is my first visit - and definitely won't be my last. Below is a map showing the area.
The fields are near to The Bowgie Inn - just keep left as you see the pub and follow the road and you will come to a NT carpark. If you decide to call into The Bowgie for a tipple to admire their views of Crantock Beach then make sure you buy a car park ticket (and keep if for a few weeks) as the bottom car park is camera controlled. Dogs are allowed in the beer garden, but not the main part of the pub. C-Bay Cafe is next door and a much better bet - they are dog friendly through out - no issue with car parking and the food is gorgeous. They also have stunning views of Crantock beach from their decking area.
The poppies are at their best from early June and will last as long as the British weather doesn't misbehave! Wind and rain is not their friend!
The National Trust have posted the information below - gives an insight into the poppies
Max wasn't so impressed with the flowers!
