I Can Cook - Just Don't Want To!

Updated: Aug 20

Update for 2024 (20th August 2024)

I have been renting out our caravans and lodge for the last 5 years. Over the years I have tried out a lot of the local takeaways! Thought I would share my thoughts on the best ones that are worth trying out! Sorry for my Trevella guests as most of these places are closer to White Acres which is where I spend most of my time.

  • The Indian Queen - Restaurant & Take Away St Columb Road, Saint Columb TR9 6QR www.indianqueen.uk Open 5pm to 10pm every day Have been back recently (August 2024) and the food and service is still great. Pre-ordered online and chose my preferred pick up time. On arrival we had a 10 minute wait while they packed up our order. Staff were friendly and helpful. There is a 10% discount on takeaway orders. Payment is taken when you pick up the food. They take cash and card. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious - and great value for money. The onion bhajis and chicken pakora starters were perfect (yes - we did order the same starters as last time!! Would definitely recommend trying this place out. Their website says that they will deliver but as it is only a few minutes from White Acres I drove over to pick it up. Will be back to visit them again very soon! Parking is on the road around the restaurant - so can be a bit hit and miss.

  • New Garden Chinese - Restaurant & Take Away Chapel Rd, Indian Queens, Saint Columb TR9 6LB Open 5pm to 10pm Tuesday to Sunday - Closed on Mondays No website - so ordering all done over the phone, with payment taken when you collect the food. I ordered mid week - so not too busy. Food was ready in 10 minutes. Prices were good value - but then I am comparing them to my local take away near Watford! Have used their take away service previously and they didn't disappoint - had a great meal. Just what I needed after a long day at the beach! Small car park out the back if no space out front of the restaurant.

  • Port & Starboard Fish & Chip - Restaurant & Take Away Chapel Rd, Indian Queens, Saint Columb TR9 6JZ www.theportandstarboard.co.uk Closed on Sundays, Open 12 noon to 1.30pm Tuesday to Friday, Open 4.30pm to 8pm Monday to Saturday Online ordering with timed pick up slots means no long queue for their delicious huge portions of fish n chips. Better value than the onsite chippie at White Acres from a portion size point of view. They also have a restaurant onsite - you will need to book a table as they do get very busy. Last orders for the restaurant are 30 minutes before closing. Gluten free cod available Quality seems to have fallen over the last 12 months and we have had several mediocre take aways from there recently. This has driven us to find a better option which is Francine's - see below

  • Francines Fish & Chips - Take Away Chesterton Place, Chester Road, Newquay, TR7 2RU www.francinesnewquay.touchtakeaway.net/menu Closed Sundays and Mondays. Open lunchtimes and 4.30 to 9.30pm Stupendous fish n chips! Cooked in beef dripping, locally produced potatoes peeled and chipped on site, great portions, good value (a large chips will feed 3 adults easily).

Online ordering system allows you to choose a pick up time and then walk straight into the chip shop (past the very long queues) to the till on the left side of the counter and let them know you have arrived. Your order will be ready in 5 mins. Free parking all around so easy to pick up .

  • The Cod End - Cafe & Take Away 9 Cliff Rd, Newquay TR7 2NE Open 12noon to 9pm every day Located on the main road into Newquay next to Aldi. Don't be tempted to use the Aldi carpark when the store is shut as you will get a ticket. Shoppers using the Aldo carpark have to enter their registration number in store. If you are going into Newquay and fancy fish n chips this is a great stop. You can eat in and enjoy the stunning views across Great Western Beach towards the Headland as the place sits on the cliffs above the main Newquay beaches. Take away and you can stroll down the path to Great Western beach and have sunset supper! Gluten free cod available Service was slow when we went in - but timed it badly with a huge influx of take away orders. Food was worth the wait though.

  • Fat Jack's Shack - American Style Smoked BBQ - Take Away / Outdoor Bench Seating Located at the end of parade of shops by Mawgan Porth Beach

Open 5pm daily - selling burgers and ribs Drinks available from the wine bar next to their pitch Expect a 30 minute wait at peak times and to have to squash onto packed benches with other customers - or get it wrapped to go and head to the beach and watch the sunset! We ordered the house burger - which was £16. Steep price - but it was awesome. Came with home made coleslaw, salad and the burger was loaded with cheese, bacon and onions, plus a generous portion of fries. If the weather is great this is a lovely way to spend an evening. As Mawgan Porth is a dog friendly beach all year it is a lovely place for an evening stroll after stuffing down one of their great meals. Fat Jack shares his pitch with Buddah Bowl - serving wraps and bowls of coconut & lime rice, apple & fennel slaw, mixed bean salad, pineapple with mint & onion seed salad, pickled veg, falafel, houmous, fresh herbs & homemade dukkah (Vegan and Gluten Free as standard - but with the option to add meat as an extra). Two buildings up there is also a Pizza take away with outdoor seating. Waiting times can be long at peak times,. They were really popular - so will be heading back to try these out very soon! All in the name of offering you up my humble opinion, obviously!
